ALROSA produces Russia’s largest colored diamond at 236 carats

MOSCOW, Aug 7 (PRIME) -- Almazy Anabara, a subsidiary of Russian diamond mining giant ALROSA, has produced a 236-carat yellow-brown diamond at the Ebelyakh field, the largest colored diamond throughout the country’s history, ALROSA said in a statement on Friday.

“This is the largest colored diamond that has ever been produced in Russia. Dimensions of the diamond are 47 millimeters by 24 millimeters by 22 millimeters. The age of the gem ranges from 120 million to 230 million years according to a preliminary estimate,” the company said.

“The gem arrived recently to United Selling Organization of ALROSA in Moscow where specialists will study and evaluate it. After that, we will make a decision whether we should give it to our masters for polishing or sell it in an unpolished state,” the company said quoting Pavel Vinikhin, director of Diamonds Alrosa.
